Making themed gel candles is a new marketplace so there are some basics that you should know before making your own gel candles. Don’t worry- its not a difficult project and once you get used to it you will be pouring gel candle wax over anything and everything.
What You Need. You can be very creative when choosing what containers to use for making your candles. The first thing you’ll need is a jar of gel wax, a metal saucepan, a thermometer, spoon, candle scent (optional), protective gloves, glass containers, candlewicks, and decorative glass beads in your choice of colors, sizes and shapes.
Making Your Gel Candle. Place your wick at the bottom of the glass container and pour some beads around it. Then melt your gel wax in a saucepan. You can add scent drops and different colors if you’d like. Carefully pour the wax into your glass container. Leave about a third of an inch of room at the top. Let your candle cool for at least 3 hours then trim your wicks. That’s it! You’ve created your own gel candle.
Here’s a tip. If any gel wax spills then wait for it to completely cool because it will return to its original gel form. Then you can put it back in the jar and reuse it. It’s easy to see why these candles are gaining in popularity. They are easy to make, cost effective and different from traditional candles.
