Problems Making Candles: Easy Tips To Make It Work
August 6th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedDo you enjoy making candles at home but run into problems along the way? Here are a few common problems and some easy solutions.
Air Bubbles. You might need to heat your wax to a hotter temperature or try pouring your wax slower. If this doesn’t work then you may need to let the wax cool more slowly (don’t put it in the fridge or on a window sill to make it cool faster).
Candle Sticking To The Container. Try rubbing a little bit of vegetable oil on the inside of your container before you pour in your wax. It should come out easier this way.
Indention In The Middle. This is unavoidable because wax will naturally contract as it cools. Wait until your candle has completely cooled and then warm up some more wax and fill in the hole.
Crack In Your Candle. This usually happens because the candle was cooled too quickly. Allow the candle to cool at room temperature. Never put it in the refrigerator or freezer.
Too Much Smoke. If there is a lot of smoke when you burn your candle then chances are you’ve used too much oil. You may also want to try to trim your wick down to 1/4 of an inch.
Too Much Flame. Trim your wick down. If your flame is too small then you may need a larger wick.
I hope these easy tips are helpful in solving your candle making problems. Remember that practice makes perfect so continue to perfect your craft by making candles and using different techniques.

Made At Home Soy Candles
August 6th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedMade At Home Soy Candles Are A Fun And Easy Project And An All Natural Choice
Do you like to light candles everyday? Are you tired of the mess and the soot it leaves behind? Perhaps you’ve heard that petroleum based candles are carcinogenic. These are all reasons why all natural soy candles have become so popular
All natural soy candles burn more efficiently than synthetic candles. They are also easier to clean up and cost less. All natural soy candles are also just as good as any other candles when it comes to the rich and wonderful smells they can bring to your home.
If you are interested in making your own soy candles then here’s a simple guide:
What You Need. You can be very creative when choosing what containers to use for your candles. You can choose small cups or colorful decorative glasses. You will need a jar of soy wax, a metal saucepan, a thermometer, spoon, candle scent (optional), protective gloves, glass containers, candlewicks, and decorative glass beads in your choice of colors, sizes and shapes.
Making Your Soy Candle. You first have to melt the soy wax and it needs to be double boiled. If you don’t have a double boiler, put water in the bottom of a sauce pan and heat on a low flame. Put some pieces of wax in a can and place the can in the pan of water. Add more pieces of wax as it melts. You can add scent and coloring if you like. Next place your wick at the bottom of the glass container and pour some beads around it (optional). Carefully pour the wax into your glass container. Leave about a third of an inch of room at the top. Let your candle cool for at least 3 hours then trim your wicks. That’s it! You’ve created your own candle.
If you don’t like the idea of making your own candles but you are interested in chemical free candles as well as a cheaper price tag, then make all natural soy candles your candle of choice. They are easily found at most natural food stores and online.
